COMMON QUESTIONS The following are excerpted from the Big Bend Community College Catalog The Commercial Pilot Training Program combines
course work in flight training along with other ground school courses to
prepare students for obtaining a commercial pilot certificate with
instrument rating. To meet these requirements, most students require more
than six quarters to complete the training. Because of this need, classes
are scheduled each summer quarter. Additional ratings for
flight instructor,
instrument flight instructor,
multi-engine,
helicopter, and
sea plane may be
earned through special arrangements. (Usually the eighth quarter). Special Admissions Requirements Students desiring admission into the Commercial Pilot Training Program must meet appropriate admission requirements stated in the aviation department student pilot handbook. Additional courses offered. Flight InstructorThe flight instructor curriculum is designed for a Commercial Pilot to add the flight instructor certificate. The training course outline that follows is a lesson guide that has been designed to meet the particular needs of Big Bend Community College Students. Flight Instructor Course Description
Enrollment prerequisites: Students enrolling in the flight portion of this course must possess: a valid commercial pilot certificate with airplane category, single engine land class and instrument airplane ratings; a current medical certificate; and have logged the ground instruction as specified in FAR 61:185(a)(2). Students enrolling in only the ground course must have passed the commercial airplane FAA knowledge test and have logged the ground instruction specified in FAR 61.185(a)(2). Course Objective: The student will obtain the knowledge, skill, and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements for a flight instructor certificate with airplane category and single engine class rating. All aircraft are equipped with at least one
360-channel transceiver and one VOR navigation receiver. All aircraft are
equipped for day and night VFR. Most are equipped and maintained for IFR
operations. Single-Engine-Sea Single-Engine-Sea AircraftThis curriculum is designed for commercial pilots to add the Single-Engine-Sea rating. The outline that follows is a lesson guide that has been designed to meet the particular training needs of Big Bend Community College Single-Engine-Sea Course Description
Flight Training: 10 hours minimum up to 5 hours credit previous time. Ground Training: 10 hours minimum up to 5 hours credit previous time. Courses will be taught concurrently or separately, depending on the needs of the student. (This course is usually completed in less than 30 days). Enrollment prerequisites: Students enrolling in this flight course must posses a Commercial Pilot certificate and hold a current medical certificate. Course Objectives: The student will obtain the knowledge, skill, and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements for an airplane single-engine sea, aircraft class rating.
Multi-Engine Land Airplane Multi-Engine LandThis curriculum is designed for commercial students to add the Multi-Engine class rating. The training course that follows is a lesson guide that has been designed to meet the particular training needs for Big Bend Community College Students. Multi-Engine Course Description
Enrollment prerequisites: Students enrolling in this flight course must posses a valid Commercial Pilot certificate with single engine land class and hold a current medical certificate. Course Objectives: The student will obtain the knowledge, skill, and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements for an Multi-engine land-airplane class rating.
